ABOUT US

Northwest Guilford High School located in Greensboro, North Carolina has an enrollment of over 1,979 students. About 15% of the population participates in at least one of the band programs offered. Mr. Brian McMath, a National Board Certified Teacher, has been leading the instrumental and marching program at NWHS since 2004.

Please take some time and look through the Band Programs site to see what is offered here at Northwest Guilford.  I am positive there is an educational spot for your child in this program.

Students have the opportunity to participate in many extracurricular band activities throughout the year.

  • The award winning Marching Vikings begin their season in late July and compete in several competitions in the fall, ending in early November.

  • Two competitive Winter Guard Ensembles begin in November and compete from January through April in the CWEA and WGI circuit.

  • A competitive Winter Percussion Ensemble begins in November and competes in January through April within the CWEA and WGI circuit.

The Northwest Guilford High School Band Program maintains a tradition of high standards in music education and instruction. Mr. McMath’s reputation for excellence in teaching and writing is known throughout the state. The band students earn the same excellent reputation because of quality classroom instruction – enhanced by participation in clinics and competitions offered at the District, State, Regional and National level. This combination paired with outstanding extra curricular performance exposure helps Northwest Guilford students consistently earn some of the states highest musical achievement awards, academic placements and scholarships for continuing education.  This legacy of excellence in music is a great source of pride for our students, alumni, and for the Northwest Guilford County community!
